Hacked Legislation

A friend of mine today received an email from the offices of Senator John Sununu letting him know that they appreciated his comments on a topic that he had emailed to them. The problem was, he did no such thing. He contacted them and told them this was a fraudulent email and to please forward to him the email sent using his name. Below is what he got. It appeared to be making every attempt to look legitimate, including his full name and address at the end. I had never thought of this avenue for spam before- being used to persuade our government one way or another on a subject. Suddenly one person has a very large voice when they can pull a stunt like this off. After all, if a representative gets enough responses that he thinks a majority of his constituents feel one way or another on something, it will get his attention. Scary stuff...

Dear Sen. John Sununu:

There is a medical emergency!

Skyrocketing medical liability rates are having a severe impact on emergency healthcare in this country. Neurosurgeons and other specialists are literally being driven out of many states because their liability insurance rates have doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled-and they can no longer afford coverage, nor risk practicing without it.

Unable to keep staff, hospitals are left with no choice but to close trauma units and discontinue other critically important emergency care services. Patients who are fighting for their lives must now travel further and wait longer for care.

I don't want to live in a country where people are allowed to die so a personal injury lawyer can make more money off frivolous lawsuits. I hope that you don't either. Please take action to deal with this crisis immediately, and vote for medical liability reform.
